THE HOPEFULLY NOT SO BORING ADVENTURES OF ELDER WILLIAMSON CHAPTER XVIII
sooo.. we have this buddy.. and he has his own barber shop, he's super cool, and he likes us, because he lived in argententina for 3 years (where my comp is from).. he gave the other elders haircuts a couple of weeks ago, and then he was talking with my comp about argentinian bbq, and my comp was saying how much he misses it, and all that.. sooo anyways suddenly we get invited to a random bbq with this guy at his friends' house.. that was a couple weeks ago, and we some things happened (probably, i never know why things happen or don't happen here) so it didn't happen till this monday... so we played basketball with this guy in the morning, which was pretty fun, and then we went back to the house for a little, and my comp was texting this guy and trying to figure out where it was gonna be and stuff, and he gets directions and a time and everything... so anyways we get all dressed up fancy in our t-shirts and shorts and crocs, and start walking down the road a little, toward where it's supposed to be.. my comp is way ahead, and the rest of us are kinda behind talking, as he's leading us off the main road and down a path that i've been down before.. down this path is a bunch of garbage, and the usual shacks and all that (all super normal here).. sooo anyways i'm really not expecting much, but we just keep walking down the path, and we just see this gate, and a nice car parked outside of it.. and there our friend is, unloading his car of bAgggs of food.. and we're like whAttt theee.. so we walk thru this gate, annnd this the friend of our friend.. and he's just super rich basically.. he's got a nice house, giant landscape stuff in his backyard, a pool, a bbq, and a kinda umbrella/pavillion thingy with a table and stuff.. sooo i'm just super stunned, and idk what to do, cuz we literally just walked into the kinda place where you would rent for a niCe vacation, and this man just starts making a fire in the grill and unloading his bags and bags of meat.. sooo we just sat there for 2 or 3 hours, listening to music, drinking soda, talking to our new rich buddy, and the bbq/barber/dominican/

THE HOPEFULLY NOT SO BORING ADVENTURES OF ELDER WILLIAMSON CHAPTER XVII
annnnd here we are again.. we had zone pday, and that was super fun.. the only pday where i get to hang out with anyone who doesn't live in my house, so it was good to see other people.. we played kickball, and some soccer, and some people threw baseballs at each other.. yk, all that kinda stuff... and then went to the church and played some card games, and signs (here's a signs explanation for you... a bunch of people sit in a circle and take turns pretend to know sign language, but in reality none of them know sign language, and one person stands in the middle trying to intimidate everyone, and choose who they think is currently pretending to know sign language, and they have to sprint as fast and as obnoxiously as possible at that person and tap them before they pass the sign to someone else).. it's more chaotic than it sounds, but it's pretty fun with the right group of people...

Joyful Reflection...
Lately, I keep having flashbacks or daydreams about Jackson, from when he was a baby. I got to spend so much time, just with my little Baby Cakes! We had so many games we played, like Taco Baby, where I would roll him up in a little blanket and roll him around while he laughed and laughed! I would do raspberries on his chubby little belly, or his soft squishy neck and he would laugh and point to his belly asking for more! He loved to go on walks in the stroller, and we would usually go twice a day for up to an hour when the weather was nice in VA. When a plane would fly overhead, Jackson would point and say "plane", or he'd love to point out every cat, dog, and tree we saw! James worked a lot and was in school for his master's degree, so Jackson was really my best buddy, often my only human contact until late in the e
vening. He loved to sit in his bouncy seat and watch me cook, clean, and even take off the tacky wallpaper border in the bedroom of our townhouse. I can remember the quizzical expression he often wore as he gently kicked his leg to bounce himself in his seat. When I think of my brother Paul, I get emotional thinking about the last time we flew home when he was alive. It was Christmas time, and Paul was living at home while his house was being built. He had told me beforehand that he felt bad that he'd signed up to work at the church cannery and wouldn't be able to be at the airport to pick up Jackson and me. But I will always remember walking toward the elevator on the second floor to get to baggage claim and seeing Paul on the escalator riding up toward us. He couldn't stand not being at the airport after all! His expression was like a kid's on Christmas morning...he couldn't wait to get his hands on Jackson! "Where's my baby" he boomed, and he rushed over to get Jackson out of his stroller! The other day after Jackson told us about all of the people they have been teaching, the thought came that Paul is probably on the other side working with Jackson to find the people that are willing to listen to the gospel! That is such a comforting thought, thinking that Paul is by Jackson's side like a guardian angel, watching after "his baby"!
I remember wondering what was going on in that amazing little mind, and I worried about the inadequacies I felt as his mother. How was I going to teach him everything he would need to know in 18 years?! What if I taught him the best that I could and he didn't make good choices? I long to go back and hold that sweet adorable baby boy, to take him to Costco in VA where he would say "Hello" to everyone who passed by. I would not worry about my baby, I would have faith that Heavenly Father would make sure that his child would be taught the things he needed to know to fulfill the plan he is supposed to. As we talk with Elder Williamson #1 over FB Messenger every week and read his emails every Monday, it is one of the most joyful experiences I've had as a mother. What could be better than reading your child's testimony of his Savior, hearing of the compassion and love he has for people he just met, or laughing about the inconveniences of a third-world country and declaring that he is exactly where he is supposed to be and he loves it! This Elder that we talk to every week is not a product of what we, his earthly parents have taught (or not taught) him. The Elder we talk to once a week has truly been changed through the influence of the Spirit, which has been his choice!
I miss seeing him slouched over in "his" chair in the front room where he used to sit every night after work catching up on texts. Now our Jackson doll sits there to mark his place. I miss hearing bits and pieces of Paul and Jackson's conversations, and the sound of ping-pong balls bouncing in the basement. I miss the smell of Jackson's special soap that used to permeate the whole basement after he showered. I can't say that I miss the smell of grease he brought home from Iceberg, but I do miss the stories about the shenanigans that went on there! It is hard to think that some of these things I miss will always be memories of the past, just like those from when he was a baby. But, I feel truly joyful that baby is growing into someone much more than I could have imagined him to be!

THE HOPEFULLY NOT SO BORING ADVENTURES OF ELDER WILLIAMSON CHAPTER XVI...
sooo we've been talking to these two guys in a cemetery.. which is pretty interesting here, because since it rains so much, there are too many floods to bury people underground.. sooo they just basically have these above ground tombs made from concrete with all the crosses and stuff you see in cemeteries... it's a little creepy at night ig, and it's super weird that there are so many bodies just chillin above ground in cement boxes like that.. buttt it was kinda cool to have a lesson there too.. we diD make sure to shake the two guys hands very firmly tho, because they were saying they spend more time at the cemetery than at their houses.. whichhh sounds like ghosts to me, buttt i shook their hands prettty firmly, so i thinkkk they're still living...
