The first night we were there, it rained like I've never seen before! Umbrellas and ponchos didn't do any good through the wind and rain. Justin and James went down the street a block to hunt for food, and they were drenched!
Our bus tour around the city was raining off and on too!
We stopped at some cool cemeteries and learned about the natural cremation process that occurs in the Louisiana heat!
Cafe Du Mond is a must, we heard! I don't care for beignets, but they were fun to try!
We wished we had more time to go back and explore the city park which is acres and acres of land.
The trees covered in Spanish moss are eerie but beautiful!
We took a paddleboat cruise and the guide told us the inside story on the relief efforts during Hurricane Katrina. The local government really screwed up but the sounds of it! It was pretty maddening to hear how long people suffered without supplies just because of bureaucracy!
We loved Jackson Square and all of the beautiful architecture around the French Quarter. The Ghost Tour was a bust...way too fake and corny with their stories!
As a shave ice lover, I had to try the best "snow balls" the city had to offer! They were hands down the best food I had on the trip! I got Lavender honey natural syrup, and James got jalapeno cantelope. Very comparable to the best shave ice I've had in Hawaii!
The cemetery tour was very interesting and I'm glad we did that. We didn't get pictures of the swamp boat tour, but we saw some huge alligators! One guide put his hand down in the water with a marshmallow and said that the alligators were too tame to bite him. I wouldn't risk it!
Our favorite activity was the cooking class where they demonstrated making gumbo, jambalaya, and pralines. It was the best food we had on our trip! We also loved the WWII museum and could have spent more time there.
Our last night turned into a storm with flash flood warnings, so we enjoyed a night in watching movies, eating ice cream, and laughing at silly things because it was late! We loved NOLA and traveling with the Swains made it all the more fun!
