Silver Lake...

The kids can't pass up an opportunity to climb every giant rock they see along the way!

We couldn't believe that there was so much snow at the end of June! It really ruined the hiking season this summer.

The kids went fishing at the lake below Silver Lake, but they didn't catch anything. That was ok with me...not fish guts in my kitchen!

Glenwood Springs...

We met Dan, Bridgette, Jack, and Lucy at a Chick-fil-a in Denver to hang out. Oliver had been born the day before, so they were giving Janell a break! It only took a few minutes for the kids to warm up to each other before they were wrestling and causing a raucous in the restaurant. That was mostly instigated by Dan and James, of course!

River rafting on the Colorado river I Glenwood Springs was one of the highlights of our trip! No one fell out of the boat, but we did ride on some turbulent rapids. It was super cold, I think the guide said the river was 50 degrees, while the air was only 68 degrees. I look like a huge pink blimp in the pictures, but I would not have survived the two hour ride without my Pancho!

Dad said we MUST go check out Doc Hollywood's grave site. It was a short hike up, and I hadn't had any idea who Doc was, so it was interesting to read about him on the plaques! 

There's a fun little amusement park at the top of the mountains in Glenwood Springs that is very well kept and has some amazing views! We took a gondola up to the top and spent a fun filled day riding rides. We were ready to head back down around 5pm, but our sunny day suddenly turned into a torrential down pour and gusts of wind that was blowing furniture around the park! Luckily we found some shelter while we waited for the gondola to open back up, not all of the guests were so fortunate. That ride down was one of the scariest experiences of my life as we were tossed to and fro so much that the operators kept stopping the cable on the way down. It was so nerve wracking just sitting in the cart that was flinging us about! I thought we might die! It was so good to be on solid ground again, and I'll definitely think twice next time I'm asked to take a gondola!

The boys loved doing this rock climbing wall in addition to a few roller coasters and other themed rides. 

We toured one of the two caves at the top of the mountain and saw some pretty amazing stalactites and stalagmites that glowed in the dark.

For some reason these kids couldn't be pulled away from these textiles???

And we finally got to try out Watercourse, which Kenna has been telling us about for a couple of years. Everything is vegan, and it was fun to see how they could make normal dishes like French Toast and tacos, and a yummy shake all vegan! 

And for some reason, mid June, they had a snowstorm in the mountains driving home! Unbelievable!
